Sky4 gets sneak peek at the new Big Tex

Posted: Updated:

Big Tex was supposed to make his big debut on Friday at the opening of the 2013 State Fair of Texas.

But FOX4 was able to get a sneak peek on Thursday with the help of Sky4, and hours later State Fair officials decided to reveal the new Big Tex a day early.

Fair officials said in a release winds were the reason they had to drop the curtain early.

So around 1:30 p.m., Fair officials dropped the large curtain around Tex to the handful of media on hand.

Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins is a huge fan of the new Big Tex. "Oh he's back baby! I'm fired up. I heard Big Tex was back and I've been coming to the fair since I was a little kid. I'm excited about it so I wanted to come and see it with my own eyes and it looks great," he said.

Earlier in the day, workers on Thursday could be seen raising a giant cover around Big Tex to keep him hidden, but Sky4 was able to peek over the top to get a look at the face of the new Big Tex.

Big Tex went up in flames in the final days of the 2012 State Fair after an electrical short triggered the blaze.
