Del. Soldiers Back From Afghanistan Get Big Welcome Home

DELAWARE CITY, Del. -

There was a big welcome home this weekend for more than 100 Delaware National Guard troops.

They're back after a long tour in Afghanistan, and hundreds were there to thank them for a job well done, FOX 29's Omari Fleming reported.

On Saturday, 127 members of Delaware's 153rd Military Police Co. were honored at a homecoming celebration in Delaware City.

For many of these military policemen, this wasn't their first tour of duty.

These soldiers spent the past eight months in Kandahar. Their mission was to train their Afghan counterparts in security operations.

The soldiers are home after completing their mission six weeks early.

These guardsmen will have a lot more time to spend with their families while they're home. They won't have any training exercises for 90 days.

But they will have to come to get monthly counseling sessions and other resources to help them transition to civilian life, Fleming reported.

    Summer is not over just yet! Today will be very hot and humid with high temperatures in the low to mid 90s and mostly sunny skies.  A cold front will bring some thunderstorms tonight, some of which may be severe.

    Wednesday will be less humid but it remains warm all week long.
