Sick Teen Raises $1Million For Charity

Posted: Updated:

The colors of the rainbow are hard to miss in one gallery inside Kansas City's Power and Light District. The artwork was done by a young Overland Park artist.

Jeff Hanson is a full-time artist now but fox news met him when he was in his teens. Then, Jeff struggled to defeat an optic tumor caused by a genetic disorder called neurofibromatosis that he nicknamed "clod."

"Now pretty much I work out of my home, mom and dad help me do the business stuff and we all paint together," Jeff Hanson said.

"You know eight years ago right now we were just working to save his vision," Jeff's mother Julie said.

His vision did get better. Jeff started giving back to some of his favorite charities like the children's tumor foundation.

He sold some of his artwork at the end of his driveway. Then, he made a bold move.

"It was at three hundred thousand when I said this. And then I said do you think by the time I'm twenty, that I could do a million dollars for charity? Mom said that's a hard goal but maybe"," Jeff said.

It happened in May of this year when he donated some art to charities for auction.

Hanson said, "it was fantastic because it happened at the Dallas make a wish and everything's' big in Texas, they're never out done."

He celebrated this goal two days before his 20th birthday

Also in the room, notecards Jeff used to make. Among new ones he's created that he now sells. He even has his hands in fashion, selling hand painted garments.

Most of all, the Hanson family have another reason to cheer.

"We are very excited to say that as of right now we've defeated CLOD. Neurofybromytosis he'll live with that everyday, but life is very joyful right now and he is doing great," Julie said.
