Tips for boosting your energy when you haven't slept

Renowned sleep, energy and fatigue expert, Dr. Jacob Teitelbau, shared these tips for boosting your energy when you haven't slept.

1. Think positive.

- start day with optimism.. sets tone for whole day

2. Turn on the light when alarm goes off.

-- will cue brain it's time to wake up.

-- open curtains to let in natural light

3. Sip coffee or sniff it.

-- caffeine temporarily interferes with the chemical signals of sleepiness

-- the aroma of coffee beans can alter the activity of genes in brain to reduce stress of sleep deprivation.

--o r have some chocolate - natural stimulant

4. Rehydrate and refuel.

-- dehydrated adds to our feelings of fatigue

-- eat breakfast within an hour or so of waking.

-- skip the fruit juices though. sugar will make your energy fall an hour later.

5. Feeling a slump: get up, stretch, drink cold water.

6. Can't leave your desk-- rub your ears.

-- Will give you a quick energy burst.
