Mom Gives Birth To A Healthy, Big Baby

BOLLINGER COUNTY, MO -

A big bundle of joy for one Missouri couple, meet Karsyn Raleigh Helmers.

She was born on Friday and her birth weight was more than 13 pounds! That's about twice the weight of an average new born baby.

The parents were a bit shocked, but they were happy to see a healthy baby girl.

According to father Wesley Helmers, "My step-dad, these were his exact words, ‘are you joking? You're kidding, right? You're playing a joke on us?' ‘No, can't joke about this one!"

Because Karsyn was so big, she was delivered by c-section. Her mom says she's looking forward to future arm workouts.

According to the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services, only about 1.1 percent of babies born in Missouri weigh more than 9.9 ponds.

According to the family, Karsyn's sister Abigail was also above average. She weighed 11 pounds when she was born 13 months ago. However, their 5-year-old Mackenzie weighed less than eight pounds at birth.

When asked by the Southeast Missourian if he wanted any more children, "Three is plenty," said Helmers.

    NICE EASTER WEEKEND

The first half of the holiday weekend has been great and Easter Sunday looks just as nice. Clouds thin out late tonight with temperatures falling back to the 40s.

Initially it'll be jacket weather early Sunday morning but plenty of sunshine will warm us into the 60s by afternoon.  High temperatures will be a few degrees cooler than Saturday.

It will be noticeably cooler and breezy at the shore with highs in the low 50s.  Quiet conditions continue into Monday.
