Southwest pilot fired after nose-first landing at LaGuardia Airport

Posted: Updated:

The pilot of a Southwest Airlines plane that landed nose first at a New York airport earlier this year has been fired.

Southwest conducted an investigation after the incident at LaGuardia Airport on July 22.

Records indicate the 13-year-veteran took control of Flight 345 from the first officer just seconds before landing.

Southwest said the first officer has been ordered to undergo more training.

Nine people were injured in the accident and the National Transportation and Safety Board investigation into the incident is ongoing.
