An early poll in the race for Texas governor shows a potential opening for likely Democratic candidate State Sen. Wendy Davis.
Davis trails Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott by eight points – 29 to 21 percent.
What's notable is the more than 50 percent of people polled who are undecided at this point. Candidates from both parties have a long way to go to build name recognition, which is an opportunity for Davis and Abbott.
Abbott currently faces a primary challenge from ex-GOP chairman Tom Pauken.
Davis, if she enters the race as expected on Thursday, would be the only Democratic candidate to date.
The poll by the non-profit Texas Lyceum poll talked to about 800 registered Texas voters.
