Family of Dallas boy shot in jaw want charges upgraded

Posted: Updated:

The family of a Dallas boy shot in the jaw wants charges upgraded against the alleged gunman.

Dallas police said DJ Maiden, 8, was shot in the jaw by Brian Cloninger, 46, in September at a Dallas apartment complex.

Maiden remains hospitalized with his jaw wired shut.

Maiden's family recently met with Dallas Police Chief David Brown to seek a bump in the charge against Cloninger from injury to a child to attempted murder.

However, the possible penalties for an injury to a child charge are greater than attempted murder.

Cloninger has a bond reduction hearing next week.
