Mom suing Keller ISD for teacher abuse

KELLER, Texas -

A Tarrant County mom is suing the Keller Independent School District claiming a teacher physically abused her special needs son.

Breggett Rideau said her son, who can't speak or walk, came home from Keller Middle School with bruises, a broken thumb and a dislocated knee in 2009.

Court testimony revealed the boy's former teacher, Dan Evans, was reprimanded for handling students too roughly, but a district investigation cleared him of any abuse.

"We need cameras in the classrooms for special needs kids. Or these types of things would never have happened to my son," Rideau said.

Evans was never criminally charged.

"The facts are coming out now through the trial and one of the facts is that CPS investigated the situation and they ruled out any abuse," said Thomas Brandt, the school district's attorney.

The trial is expected to end early next week.
