Texas anti-abortion group ad targets Wendy Davis

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) - A leading state anti-abortion group is launching a bilingual radio advertising campaign in South Texas criticizing Democratic state Sen. Wendy Davis as she gears up for a likely run for governor.

The 60-second spots sponsored by Texas Right to Life feature female voiceovers decrying abortion and are scheduled to hit the airwaves this weekend.

Davis rocketed to national political stardom this summer, when she staged a nearly 13-hour filibuster that temporarily blocked strict new limits on abortion in Texas. They eventually passed the Republican-controlled Legislature by a wide margin, however.

Davis is traveling to Haltom City outside Fort Worth on Thursday, and should announce her 2014 gubernatorial bid.

Abortion promises to dominate the race since the likely Republican nominee, Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott, fiercely opposes it.
