Children injured in Pleasant Grove drive-by shooting

Posted: Updated:

Someone sprayed a Pleasant Grove home with bullets injuring a 10-year-old girl and her older sister. The gunman is still on the run but the victims' mom says she knows the shooter.

They said the man has stayed in their home as the boyfriend of a former roommate. Police have not name a suspect yet. The family said detectives are preparing a lineup in hopes of matching a face with fingerprints.

LaKivia Dorrough, 21, and Keimaya Robertson, 10, spent Thursday night packing boxes for their impending move while their mother was at work.

The two listened to the radio and danced. Then, at 7:40 p.m., Lakivia heard what she thought was fireworks at their home on Kiva Ln. Then, she saw smoke and ran toward the front door. "I thought it was just a paintball, I looked down and I saw I'm bleeding, I'm bleeding, then I looked over at her and I saw it hit her too," said Dorrough.

A bullet shot through the window, two interior walls, LaKivia's left ankle, then Keimaya's left ankle and finally stopped in the carpet.

Fifteen minutes before the shooting, Keimaya and her brother Kelvin, 9, played spades sitting on the floor next to the window. "When I came in, that's the part that scared me last night because my kids was just in here playing," said LaKivia and Keimaya's mom Shun Robertson.

She said a friend and colleague lived with them for a month. She told police she thinks the woman's angry ex-boyfriend is to blame. "When I saw the gunshots coming through this window right here, I knew it was the room she used to sleep in, and when she slept, she slept right across this window right here where it has the most bullets," said Robertson.

Dallas police have conducted interviews with the family and neighbors. They've also collected shell casings and dusted for fingerprints. "I pray they catch him because he does not deserve to walk these streets," said Robertson.

Police records show there was an assault at the same address four weeks ago.

It fits the description the family gave of the suspect and his girlfriend who lived with them.

Now, it's up to the bullets and other evidence to make the connection.
