CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

Regardless of what the calendar says, last week's storm system had it all, including heavy mountain snow to flooding and violent tornadoes.

This storm dropped in from the Gulf of Alaska Wednesday October 2nd and basically stalled out over the Rockies as the storm system slowly became cut-off from the Jet Stream. This resulted in record October snowfall from Wyoming to parts of Nebraska and especially South Dakota. Lead, SD measured in at 48" with some areas in the hills reporting 4-7 foot snow drifts.

By Thursday and Friday the storm system reached the central plains and delivered a knockout punch with a significant severe weather outbreak. There were 115 reports of severe weather Thursday and Friday including 27 tornadoes. 18 tornadoes were reported in Nebraska, 8 in Iowa, and 1 in South Dakota.

The tornado in Wayne, NE injured 14 people and was rated an EF4 with winds up to 170mph. For the latest report on the Wayne, NE tornado, click here.

So just how rare are October tornadoes? Here's a nice write up from the National Weather Service from Omaha.

Although the storm system weakened a little on Saturday as it moved into the Chicago area, it still delivered monsoon like rains and severe t-storms. Widespread 50 to 60mph winds were reported around the Chicago Saturday afternoon bringing down trees and a few power lines. Hail up to 1" was reported in Bolingbrook and more than 2" in Buffalo Grove.
