One suspect on the run after failed ATM smash-&-grab

Posted: Updated:

Two people tried to steal an ATM from a check cashing store in Oak Cliff early Tuesday morning.

Police said the suspects backed a stolen pick-up truck into a window at the Speedy Cash store at the intersection of Illinois Avenue and Hampton Road. Once the men were inside they lifted the machine onto the bed of the truck.

The store is open 24 hours a day and two employees were inside when the alleged thieves broke in at 3 a.m..

The suspects sped away but they were spotted by officers a few blocks away as they loaded the ATM into a white van. The men ran as soon as they were seen by police. One suspect was caught hiding in an apartment complex about a mile away from the Speedy Cash store. The other suspect is still on the run.
