DART to vote on domestic partner benefits

Posted: Updated:
Dallas Area Rapid Transit may extend benefits to domestic partners, including gay and lesbian couples.

The board is expected to vote Tuesday on what it is being called the "One Plus Plan."

The proposal would give health benefits to DART employees' partners and their children. It would affect about 200 people and could cost the agency about $700,000 per year.

A majority of the board's 15 members will have to vote in favor of the item for it to pass.

If it does, the changes should go into effect in January.
