Mother forces child to get out of the car on the freeway

By: Damali Keith

A Houston area mother is in a heap of trouble after allegedly putting her 10-year-old son out of the car on the freeway.

League City Police say 34-year-old Angela Garcia forced her son out on Interstate-45 at League City Parkway."The mother, as a form of discipline, turned him out of the car and told him to walk home," explains League City Police Officer Reagan Pena.

Officer Pena says Garcia may call it discipline but the law calls it illegal, a felony in fact. Garcia is now charged with Abandoning or Endangering a Child. "Making your child walk home on I-45 at 8:30 at night in the dark, in a busy stretch where many fatalities have occurred that is crossing the line," says Pena.

Fortunately someone driving by on the freeway saw the 10-year old walking on the shoulder of the highway and called 911."It was at 8:30 at night. It's dark. It's on a major roadway. There are many cars going, it's also a stretch of freeway we've had many fatalities in the last month. The child truly was in danger," Pena adds.

Garcia is now out of jail on bond. CPS is involved. We're told the 10 year old is staying with relatives. League City Police say after they picked up the 10 year old walking along the highway they found the mother just over a hill parked on the shoulder of the freeway in her white Audi S4.

Investigators are asking anyone who may have witnessed the mother and son's altercation on I-45 at 8:30 p.m. Monday to call the League City Police Department at (281) 332-2566.
