NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

A Long Island resident turned over a two-foot American alligator to the Suffolk County SPCA this week.

The reptile's owner had missed an "amnesty day" held a few weeks ago sponsored by the state Department of Environmental Conservation, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, and the Suffolk County SPCA.

"The owner did the right thing by calling us and turning over the alligator rather than setting it loose somewhere," Suffolk SPCA Chief Roy Gross said.

The alligator was in good health and will be turned over to a licensed reptile facility, Goss said.

This is the 19th alligator either turned over or abandoned on Long Island in the last year or so, the SPCA said.

Step through the doors of Hope's Land of Candy in Island Park, Long Island and you''ll be taking a trip back in time. There's no WIFI but they do have a Victrola piano. And then there's the candy.. lots and lots of it.
