Murray Feldman Opinion

(DETROIT - WJBK) There are plenty of people who call this a sad day, a charismatic leader who at age 31, was  given the keys to the city..

12 years later he's locked up and 'those' keys are thrown away.

Kwame kilpatrick is not the first official to go to prison. Detroit is not the only city that has seen it happen.

But as we move past this day and this event, let's focus on the leaders we have in place.

What we saw today should send them a message. That they will be held accountable and that there is a price to pay.

What we saw today should also send the people of Detroit and all communities a message.

That they will be held accountable too, for the decisions they make in electing people to guide them.

The mistakes  made in the past have cost us national reputation-and at least an estimated million dollars-plus in legal fees that 'we the people" pay when our leaders go astray.

It's my view that this sad day can turn into a bright one if we all learn from others' mistakes and there are plenty of lessons from which to learn.

That's my view, we'd like to hear from you, please add your comments to this page.
