DALLAS -

Dallas police are investigating an officer-involved shooting in West Oak Cliff.

It happened at about 3 a.m. in the 200 block of Barnett Street while undercover officers were searching for a couple of suspected car thieves.

According to a police report, the officers heard gunshots and saw a black SUV speed away. It didn't stop until it hit an unmarked police car.

Two suspects jumped out of the SUV and the officers pursued them on foot, police said.

Police said one of the officers yelled for one of the suspects to show his hands. Instead, the suspect raised an unknown object in the direction of the officer.

Fearing for his life, the officer shot at the suspect and missed, police said.

The suspect was taken into custody unharmed.

The second suspect remains at large.
