Some Residents Remain On Coast Despite Nor'easter

Posted: Updated:
AVALON, N.J. -

FOX 29's Leigh Scheps is in Avalon, where the most action from the storm is. Behind her, you can see the ocean and Mother Nature at work.

Waves soaked the Townsend's inlet bridge in Avalon. It's just one of a few roads closed off as a precaution when the Nor'easter hit.

Despite the weather, Dutch Becker and his family are renting a home on the island for the weekend. Mother Nature's wrath isn't stopping them from enjoying their vacation time.

"We have no control over that. It's not going to be that bad. Not like other years where they had flooding," said Becker.

Becker says he likes it like this, empty. It's a sight that you certainly don't see over the summer.

"It's a wash out. You can see there's no other cars on the street. That's what we like," he told FOX 29.

The Nor'easter spared Avalon from more damage after Sandy tore through. There was only minor street flooding. Water from the back bay stayed off of people's property.

"It's not much of a storm," said another resident.

"I didn't see much of anything. That's why I am going to see the high tide," said Marge Delaney of Avalon.

Perhaps some of the only people hurt by this storm were construction workers like Ken Martin.

"We're at the phase of the project where we have the roof open, so it's not good because we're getting water in the house,"

"So it's delaying the project?" asks Leigh Scheps.

"Yea, slowing it down," he replied.
