The family of 28-year-old Stephanie Terlisner says she was due to give birth any day, but now they are planning her funeral.
Dallas police say she was shot in the chest during a home robbery. It happened about 7 p.m. Saturday in the 6600 block of Cool Morn Drive near Bonnie View Road in Southeast Oak Cliff. They say the suspect used a handgun in the shooting that killed Terlisner and her unborn child.
Terlisner, the mother of a 4-year-old girl, had recently lived with her grandparents. According to court records, she had a criminal past, pleading guilty to three theft charges in Dallas County.
"Her mother called us very hysterical that something was wrong," said Donna Terlisner, Stephanie's step grandmother.
She says she started making phone calls to find out if what they were hearing was true.
"I called the hospital. When I finally got to talk to someone they told us there was no need to come. She was already gone," said Terlisner.
Terlisner says she last saw her step granddaughter a few weeks ago. Stephanie went to their house to pick up mail. She said everything seemed fine and Stephanie was looking forward to the birth of her second child. She wanted to keep the gender a secret.
Police have not made any arrests so far.
"If they know who he is, tell somebody, so no other family gets put through this by the same person," said Terlisner.
