Fire damages Norcross muffler shop

Posted: Updated:
NORCROSS, Ga. -

Investigators are trying to determine what sparked a blaze at a Gwinnett County auto repair shop early Monday morning.  They say flames broke out at the business, which is located next to the Atlanta Auto Max on Buford Highway in Norcross.

Fire crews say the blaze was reported just before 2 a.m., and firefighters arrived to find flames and smoke coming from the service area.  After determining no one was inside the building, crews took a defensive approach and battled flames from outside the building.

The fire set off a number of explosions inside building, which was gutted by the blaze.  No one was hurt.

Investigators aren't sure of the exact cause of the fire, but because it is an auto business, firefighters say it could have been related to gas or other products that might be used inside.

The cause is still under investigation.  Arson has not been ruled out.

Authorities first said the fire had sparked at the Atlanta Auto Max car dealership next door, but that turned out not to be the case.
