RED ROCK, Ariz. -

A practical joke went terribly wrong when a man tried to scare his girlfriend with a gun on Monday night.

20-year-old Ramiro Delcid was holding his gun while sitting in his company truck with his girlfriend. They were at Red Rock Feeding, near Hollis and Coachway Roads.

Pinal County Sheriff's deputies say Delcid thought he had unloaded his .38 caliber pistol and then pointed it at his girlfriend, trying to scare her.

Delcid allegedly pulled the trigger, believing the gun was empty, but a lone bullet hit her in the chest.

19-year-old Dina Dicochea was declared dead at the scene.

Deputies say Delcid called 911 after he shot her. He was booked into Pinal County Jail for negligent homicide.
