Magnitude 2.4 quake rattles nerves in Ellis County

Posted: Updated:

A 2.4 magnitude earthquake rattled nerves and some homes in Ellis County on Wednesday morning.

The USGS reported the 2.4 earthquake was centered 1 km west of Ovilla, TX, which would place it approximately along Highway 67 between Cedar Hill and Midlothian. The quake was registered at 8:37 a.m.

FOX4 viewers contacted the station Wednesday morning saying they felt something like an explosion or heard a loud boom in the Cedar Hill area. One woman said her house shook.

The USGS was unable to provide any more details because the majority of its operations have been suspended due to the ongoing government shutdown.
