Emergency repairs underway after hole found in I-20 bridge

Posted: Updated:

Two lanes of westbound Interstate 20 in Dallas were closed Wednesday afternoon due to a damaged bridge.

A large hole opened up in the right lanes of I-20 over Houston School Rd., causing the interstate to be shutdown entirely for a short period Wednesday. Eventually police opened up two of the four lanes to traffic, but the closure resulted in major traffic backups.

Drivers were urged by officials to avoid westbound I-20 between Lancaster Rd. and Houston School Rd. due to the reduced lanes.

Officials estimated the two rights lanes would be closed until at least 9 p.m. on Thursday for emergency repair work.
