American Airlines to fly direct to China from DFW in 2014

Posted: Updated:

American Airlines will offer direct flights to China from Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport beginning summer 2014.

American officials made the announcement at DFW Airport on Wednesday with the mayors of Dallas and Fort Worth on hand to celebrate the news.

American will fly direct from DFW to Hong Kong and Shanghai. It's the first-ever direct flights between DFW and China.

"This is major, why? We've got all these folks in China with all this money. The fastest growing area in the United States, Dallas-Fort Worth, connecting to Latin American through American Airlines," said Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings.

DFW Airport has added 17 new international destinations, counting the new China routes, in the last three years.
