Godley, Mansfield officers sued for excessive force

BURLESON, Texas -

A Johnson County man filed a lawsuit claiming police used excessive force when he was wrongfully detained.

Carlos R. Sanders said Godley and Mansfield police officers came to his Burleson home in January with an arrest warrant for traffic violations.

He said officers used a Taser on him, threw him to the floor and arrested him.

A short time later, police noticed the name on the warrant had a different middle initial and the birth dates did not match up.

"I didn't realize they were police until the door was completely open. By that time they'd grabbed me and they Tased me. There wasn't any in between. This is Godley Officer This. Can we speak to Mr. Sanders? None of that," Sanders said.

The Mansfield and Godley police departments are named in the lawsuit. Two police officers are also named.
