Friends and family are mourning the death of a Townview Magnet Center student who was shot and later died Thursday night.
Lovell Jenkins III, 17, suffered a gunshot wound to the chest from a shooting in the 600 block of Fern Drive in DeSoto.
DeSoto police found Jenkins a mile from the scene when officers were flagged down by a passing vehicle about 9:15 p.m. on Thursday. Jenkins was a passenger inside and was still alive. He was taken to a local hospital where he died.
Police haven't said much about what happened, but parents at a Friday vigil for the killed teenager say they talked with families of boys who were there.
James Hall tells FOX 4 Lovell and two other teenagers went to visit some girls to get them to come to the fair.
Hall said "some guys" walked up to the car and started asking questions like, "what are you guys doing here?"
He said the guys, "opened the back door, then another gentleman walked to the drivers side door and just literally stick his gun in and just opened fire."
A homeowner in the neighborhood told FOX 4 off camera his security system caught the shooting on tape. The homeowner says the video shows a man opening the back door and firing at least two shots.
Police seized the surveillance video.
Jenkins was a junior at Dallas ISD's Yvonne A. Ewell Townview Magnet Center and also played basketball at James Madison High School in DISD.
Parents and students who attended the vigil at the school are angry about the violence that took Lovell's life.
"This is such a senseless crime," Cedric Johnson, a friend of Lovell's parents, said. "These were children just out enjoying themselves and someone took the initiative to take another child's life."
