KwanzaaFest won't happen in 2013.
The Dallas-based event, which has provided free health screenings for more than 20 years, was canceled due to a lack of sponsors.
The event was created by Dallas County Commissioner John Wiley Price and the commissioner denied any fallout from the ongoing federal investigation into his finances was the reason for the event's cancellation.
Price said he had a late offer to run a smaller version of KwanzaaFest, but in the end it wasn't worth it. He said six weeks wasn't enough time to get an event organized.
Price said he's most disappointed that the health screenings won't occur for attendees.
"That 175,000 screenings – that is probably the most disappointing because that's what KwanzaaFest has evolved into," Price said.
More than 35,000 medical screenings happened at 2012 KwanzaaFest and officials said its likely even more would have occurred in 2013.
