An 8-year-old boy who is battling a life-threatening condition is still going to school.
Israel Trevino is a student at James Bowie Elementary in Oak Cliff. This is his first week back in the classroom after four surgeries for a non-cancerous tumor, which causes fluid on his brain.
His mom says he wants to help others by praying for them.
"Like sometimes they say, 'How are you so brave?' And I say, 'I'm just trusting in the Lord,'" he said.
"As a mom, you fear for the worst, but he didn't fear at all. He just, he's all in faith. He put it all in God's hand. At Children's they call him Reverend Israel," said Melinda Mendoza, Israel's mom.
Doctors said the tumor may be less risky to remove when he gets older, but for now he'll still have to deal with symptoms of it.
Israel said right now he's focusing on third grade and wants to be a pastor when he grows up.
