A Florida mom desperate for food -- shoplifts at a local grocery store, but instead of arresting her, a police officer bought the woman groceries.

Police say Jessica Robles went to the store and tried to walk off with nearly $300 worth of food.  That's when she was stopped by an officer.  But instead of taking her to jail, she made a very unusual decision.

"I made the decision to buy her some groceries because arresting her wasn't gonna solve her problem with their children being hungry, so I went in and bought her some groceries.. $100 worth of groceries, yes $100," said Officer Vicki Thomas of the Miami-Dade Police.

Robles says she found herself in this situation after her boyfriend lost his job.

Thomas says she hopes this will inspire Robles to help others someday.
