Congressman helps with medical emergency on flight to DFW

Posted: Updated:

A United States congressman from California helped a passenger with a medical emergency on an American Airlines flight to Dallas Thursday morning.

Flight 175 from Washington D.C. was diverted to Raleigh after a woman collapsed on the plane.

Rep. Pete Gallego of Texas was on the flight with Rep. Raul Ruiz of California. On Twitter, Gallego said Ruiz was one of two doctors who helped to stabilize the passenger.

Gallego said it was "impressive" to see Ruiz in action and he hopes he's on all his flights home.

After finally arriving at DFW Airport, Congressman Ruiz told the media this is actually the fourth time he's been asked to help someone on a plane.

He has worked as emergency room doctor.
