Demolition begins on Ga. 400 toll booths

ATLANTA -

If you normally drive through the Georgia 400 toll plaza, things will look a little different today.  Demolition is beginning to remove the toll plaza, but that doesn't mean you'll stop paying that toll just yet.

The $4.5 million demolition project will be done in four phases, and this is the start of phase 1.  

Starting today, crews will be re-striping the Peach Pass lanes, removing the old toll-related signage and placing out portable message signs through the corridor to keep drivers informed.  Gradual changes will continue until they stop collecting tolls-- which will hopefully be the week before Thanksgiving.  

Then, the final phase and heavy demolition will begin after the New Year, when they remove the booths and canopy.  

The Georgia Department of Transportation says they will try to keep construction from being disruptive.
