CHANDLER, Ariz. -

Chandler Police say two boys are still in critical condition after a hit-and-run accident Saturday morning.

Sgt. Joe Favazzo says fire crews responded to a rollover crash near Ray Road and Arrowhead around 11 a.m. on Saturday.

The driver of a Ford F250 reportedly lost control, drove through shrubbery and down into a retention basin.

It continued up and out of the basin, went airborne and slammed into an SUV.

The SUV rolled over twice as the truck continued out of control and allegedly intentionally fled to an area half a mile away.

According to police, witnesses followed the suspect through the neighborhood to where it finally stopped.

Police say the SUV was driven by a 61-year-old woman with two 3-year-old boys and a 2-year-old girl in the backseat. All three children were in child safety seats.

The two boys were taken to a hospital and are in critical condition. The little girl and driver had minor injuries.

The truck was driven by 43-year-old Nathan Painter, who had his girlfriend in the front seat. She was injured during the crash and was taken to a hospital.

Police say speed and impairment are factors in the collision.

Painter was booked on multiple aggravated assault, endangerment and hit and run charges.

The names of the victims have not been released.
