House fire caused by Lightning strike

Posted: Updated:

A Lightning strike is likely to blame for two fires in Fort Worth, at the same home, and less than 12 hours apart.

Neighbors on Barnhill Lane in Fort Worth thought they were just dealing with a bad storm last night, until they saw firefighters  on their street.

Jose Palasios said, "We were inside having dinner and all of a sudden the fire trucks were coming down the road and we ran outside to look and the chimney was on fire."

After crews put the fire out people headed back to bed thinking everything was OK.

Neighbor Kim Seagraves said, "We woke up at 6:45 in the morning and it was fully flamed so we were in the backyard spraying our roof down with water hoses and put the sprinklers on the side of the house."

The home suffered significant damage but no one was hurt.  A fire official at the scene this morning told Fox 4 that based on witnesses and physical evidence it seems likely that lightning sparked the fire.
