Father upset religious book found at school fair

COBB COUNTY, Ga. -

Some Cobb County parents are upset after their daughter found a religious book at a school fair.

Thomas Prisock said their daughter, a kindergarten student, bought the book "Golden Domes and Silver Lanterns: A Muslim Book of Colors" at a scholastic book fair at Dowell Elementary School in west Cobb County.

"It's an indoctrination of the Muslim culture and the religious culture in the schools," said Prisock.

The father of three said he believes that religious books should not be provided at public schools.

"I don't feel that it's a good representation of all the cultures.  Let's either do none -- which the schools are now not supposed to have religious materials in them -- or let's have everything. It's only fair both ways," Prisock said.

A spokesperson for the Cobb County School District noted that the family purchased the book and said that there were other books at the fair from other religions.

Prisock said that he saw no other religions represented.

"I actually walked through the book fair and I did not see any other religious items," Prisock said.

Prisock took his complaint to the Cobb County School Board and was told the district would investigate. The system also refunded the father his money and offered a replacement book.
