Driver arrested in Sandy Springs hit and run accident

SANDY SPRINGS, Ga. -

Police say they have captured the driver who drove into a traffic light pole at a busy Sandy Springs intersection on Sunday and then fled the scene on foot.

A spokesperson for the Sandy Springs Police Department tells FOX 5 News that 34-year old Sandy Springs resident John Tyler Smith was arrested for the crash that took out the light on Roswell Road at Glenridge Drive on Sunday.

It took crews several hours to restring and fix the light causing Sunday drivers headaches trying to get through the busy intersection.

Smith was booked into the Alpharetta Jail on Reckless Driving, Failure to Maintain Lane, Striking a Fixed Object, and Failure to Report charges.
