Speed limit on I-285 being raised to 65 on Friday

Posted: Updated:

Drivers along a portion of Interstate 285 will be able to move a little quicker starting Friday. The Georgia Department of Transportation will implement new speed limits for portions of The Perimeter that are south of Interstate 20.

GDOT made the announcement back in July that they were thinking of raising the speed limit to 65 miles per hour. The speed limit at the east and west exchanges for Interstate 20 will still remain 55 miles per hour for now.

That may change this time next year with their plan to install new a Variable Speed Limit system which will allow traffic operators to raise or lower speed as conditions warrant.

The signs for the new speed limit are already installed. GDOT crews will be the change over at noon on Friday.
