Up to 8 inches of rain in some North Texas areas

Posted: Updated:
FAIRFIELD, Texas -

While the heavy rain missed the Dallas-Fort Worth area, areas to the southeast are flooded.

FOX 4 viewer Eric Cooper submitted photos of flooded parking lots in Fairfield in Freestone County. The city got up to 8 inches of rain.

On Highway 84 near Teague, several drivers had to be rescued after they were caught in high water and portions of Highway 79 near Palestine are reportedly closed.

The Freestone County Sheriff's Department said deputies are extremely busy responding to weather-related calls.

The National Weather Service on Thursday issued flash flooding warnings for Limestone and Freestone counties through 9:15 a.m.

But FOX 4 Meteorologist Evan Andrews said the storms are on their way out and the day will turn out to be pretty pleasant for most in North Texas -- sunny, windy and much dryer. A front will bring cooler weather for the weekend.
