Private home rentals for Super Bowl week

Posted: Updated:

Looking for a hotel room for Super Bowl weekend? Good luck. Experts say there are about 90,000 hotel rooms are in the New York City area and hundreds of thousands of fans coming in that weekend.

Now, some are turning to sites like Airbnb to rent out their homes for the big game, at a big price.

An apartment in Hoboken is going for $10,000 a night.

Brian Krauss is offering up his saddle river mansion for a cool $35,000 a week. He said it is a better deal than a hotel, some of which are going for thousands of dollars a night.

Tom Duhamel works at an online service that acts as a liaison in the rental process.

"There will probably be an influx of about 400,000 people in this area, so that being said, hotel rooms are going to get booked and our website acts as a way for people to find other means to hang out really close to the super bowl," Duhamel said.

Officials say short-term rentals for single-family homes in New Jersey are legal, but you may need to check with your homeowners association if you're trying to rent out your apartment.

But in New York, seller beware: the law says you can't rent out your space on a short-term basis in buildings with 3 apartments or more.

If you can't swing a $10,000-a-night apartment or make it to the big game, you can always catch it on Fox 5.
