Federal authorities dig into alleged shooter's past

Posted: Updated:
LOS ANGELES -

Investigators are looking into the past of the man who allegedly killed a Transportation Security Administration officer at Los Angeles International Airport on Friday.  The FBI says while they can't find and previous run-ins with the TSA, they allege Paul Ciancia had strong anti-government feelings and wanted to kill TSA agents.

He allegedly took an AR-15 rifle out of a duffel bag inside Terminal 3 of LAX and started firing shots, killing TSA Officer Gerardo Hernandez.  Hernandez is the first TSA official to die in the line of duty in the agency's 12-year history.

Ciancia has been charged with first-degree murder and commission of violence at an international airport.  He could face the death penalty.

Four others were shot and wounded in the shooting spree, including two other TSA employees.
