CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

State Route 47 has reopened after a three-vehicle pile-up caused a semi truck to spill 100 gallons of diesel fuel Sunday morning near the far northwest suburb of Huntley.

State Route 47 was reopened about 8 a.m. between Interstate 90 and Big Timber Road after crews cleaned up the spill, the Kane County Sheriff's office said in a release.

The crash occurred about 6 p.m. Saturday when the driver of the semi had to swerve out of the way of a car that was making an abrupt U-turn, according to the release.

The semi careened into a ditch before ricocheting back onto the roadway with a ruptured gas tank spilling fuel, sheriff's police said. In addition to the car making the U-turn, another car was involved in the crash.

No one was injured in the crash, though about 100 gallons of fuel contaminated onto the road and the ditch, sheriff's police said.
