Firefighters investigate blaze at Tucson church

Posted: Updated:
TUCSON, Ariz. -

Firefighters are investigating the cause of an early morning blaze that ripped through the attic of a three-story church near downtown Tucson.
Fire Capt. Barrett Baker says the first crews were dispatched to the church around 2 a.m. Sunday. They found heavy smoke coming from the vents above the third floor.
More crews arrived and forced their way into the church to make sure no one was inside.
The firefighters used thermal imagining cameras to locate the fire in the attic. Multiple holes were cut in the roof to let the smoke escape as crews on the ground sprayed water into more holes that were cut into the ceiling.
More than 40 firefighters and 15 units responded to the two-alarm blaze. No injuries were reported.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
