Millions raised for breast cancer research

Posted: Updated:

The Komen 3-Day Walk for the Cure started on a cold Friday morning in Plano, but ended with beautiful weather in Fair Park on Sunday.  Hundreds of men and women gathered for the walk to raise money and awareness for breast cancer.

Several thousand people showed up for the end of the event on Sunday at Fair Park.  Close to 1,200 people participated in the 3-day walk and they raised about $3.3 million.  Among those that walked, there were 242 breast cancer survivors.

They started out in Plano and then walked 60 miles around the Metroplex to cities like Richardson, Farmers Branch, Carrollton, Dallas and then to Fair Park.

The money raised will go to breast cancer research.  Komen founders say because of events like this walk, breast cancer death rates have dropped by 33% since 1990.
