FOX 4's Heather Hays has an update on an elderly woman was robbed and roughed up when all she was trying to do was take a homemade lemon ice box pie to a friend.
It happened during the day in July of 2010. Gwen Tauzin had just parked her car at a strip center in Garland. She was walking with a cane and carrying her pie when she was brutally attacked, knocked to the ground and her purse was stolen.
Garland police said within minutes of the attack someone began using Tauzin's credit cards. Surveillance video aired on FOX 4 and police got tips that lead them to 25-year-old Aime Nicole Ritchie.
"She looked like a fairly decent person. I just didn't dream that they were going to knock the hell out of me," Tauzin said. "I was bruised all over. There wasn't an inch of my body that wasn't sore."
She had to get stitches and it took her months to fully recover.
Ritchie was arrested and charged with aggravated robbery. She was found guilty and got eight years in prison. She will be eligible for parole in 10 months.
"It's just hard to believe people are like that, you know. I would do that to my dog or your dog," Tauzin said.
She just celebrated her 92nd birthday and is doing great. She's still living independently, still driving and still making her famous lemon ice box pies.
