Eastbound I-10 has reopened near Casa Grande Wednesday morning after it was closed due to an accident that detoured traffic from Phoenix to Tucson for nearly five hours.
Westbound lanes of I-10 were closed in the same area much of the early morning because of a separate collision but also have reopened.
The first collision occurred just before 2:30 a.m. on the westbound lanes.
Department of Public Safety spokesman Bart Graves says crews were painting lines on the ground from the back of a truck.
A semi truck driver allegedly didn't see the crew and ran right into the back of the truck. The workers were ejected from the vehicle and the truck rolled into the shoulder. Graves says the workers were treated at a hospital and released. The second accident involved a semi truck carrying watermelons.
Graves says he believes it was trying to turn onto the westbound lanes when it was hit by a van, causing it to get caught halfway underneath it. Two people in the van were taken to a hospital with serious injuries.
The Arizona Department of Public Safety says each accident involved a collision between a tractor-trailer rig and another vehicle.
