Police: Chief Brown email is a scam

Posted: Updated:

Dallas police are warning people about phony emails that appears to be from the Dallas Police Department.

The emails say they're from Chief David O. Brown and contain the department's address. They mention consignment boxes and ask for payment.

But, they're fraudulent, police said.

"What we wanted to do to the public was make sure they are notified and let them know about these types of scams," said Sgt. Richard Santiesteban.

Detectives believe the emails originate from the African nation of Ghana.
