Neighborhood fights against proposed gas station

Posted: Updated:

In one corner, a downtown neighborhood, and in the other, a Circle K.

People who live near 7th Street and Roosevelt are fighting against a Circle K expansion.

The proposed 12 pump gas station and convenience store would be built on the southeast corner of the intersection.

The neighbors in the area oppose the new gas station because they're worried it will bring crime into the area.

They base their fears on an ASU report from October 2012 which claims that while Circle K owns 25 percent of the convenience store market, it's responsible for 75 percent of combined crime statistics.

In addition, the group found an application from last year where a zoning administrator placed eight restrictions on the project.

They're taking the issue to the Phoenix City Council on Wednesday.
