Increased police presence at Plano ISD football games Friday

Posted: Updated:

Plano police plan a heavy presence at Plano ISD football games on Friday after last week's postgame brawl at a Whataburger.

Two rivalry games will be played on Friday – Plano vs. Allen and Plano West vs. Plano East.

Plano ISD has partnered with Plano police, which plans to reassign some officers and add extra officers to keep an eye on students at the games and at places where students hang out after games.

"There was a potential for a lot more bad things to happen, but we have taken some action regarding that," said Plano police spokesman David Tilley.

The principal of Plano West Senior High School sent a letter home to parents on Thursday letting them know about the increased security and asking for better behavior by students.

"The reputation of a Plano West student does not stop at the school door -- despite the fact that we cannot control decisions made by these young adults," wrote Plano West Principal Kathy King.

Five teenagers have been arrested to date for the brawl at a Whataburger after the Plano vs. Plano West football game.
