TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) - Interrupting a decades-old tradition, the University of Arizona's homecoming this weekend won't feature a huge bonfire.
According to the Arizona Daily Star, officials say that's because the normal location for the bonfire is unavailable.
The lawn of Old Main, the Tucson campus' first building, is fenced off for a renovation.
Alumni Association Vice President Jill Hall says officials considered having the bonfire at another site.
Hall says that was rejected because heavy traffic is expected on the campus for the men's basketball team's season opener.
Work on renovating Old Main is expected to finish in time for bonfire to return next fall for the 100th anniversary of UA homecoming.
