An Allen High School senior who died Thursday in a single car auto wreck may have been texting while driving.
Emily Stambaugh, 17, crashed into a tree and then a wall on W. Exchange Parkway at Trinidad Lane. Stambaugh died on impact and investigators found her cell phone on her lap.
She reportedly had just sent texts to her boyfriend and sister just before the crash.
The crash site has turned into a makeshift memorial for her friends at Allen H.S., with flowers left at the scene by classmates.
"Texting while driving is a divided attention exercise and anytime you have a divided attention exercise while driving a vehicle, it's a dangerous combination... it's the same as if you were driving impaired with alcohol or narcotics," said Allen Police Sgt. Jon Felty.
